Importance of Dhari Devi Temple
This temple is established amidst the stream of water flowing from the lake (Protector of Char Dham in Uttarakhand). This temple is established in the middle of a lake. The Mata established in this temple is considered the protector goddess of mountains and pilgrims. It is also said that Mother Goddess protects the Char Dham by sitting at this place. Her temple is one of the 108 Shakti Sthalas counted by Srimad Devi Bhagwat in India.

According to the priests of this temple, the idol of Maa Dhari has been installed in the temple since the Dwapar era. According to a legend associated with this religious place, once the temple was washed away by a severe flood. At the same time, the idol of Mata present in it was also washed away, and it stopped after hitting a rock near Dharo village. It is said that a divine voice came from that idol, which instructed the villagers to install the idol at that place.
After this, the villagers together built a temple of Mata there. Regarding this temple, it is also said that Devi Dhari Devi has two parts. The upper part of her body was manifested in the Dhari Devi temple, while the lower part was manifested in the Kalimath temple, where she is worshipped as Maa Kali. Had To Face Punishment For Trying To Remove The Temple
According to the information given by the local people, the project company decided to uplift the statue from Dhari Devi temple. The people of Garhwal opposed it and also called it destructive. But the company officials did not listen to them, and the statue of Dhari Devi was lifted on June 16, 2013. On the same day, there was a flood in Kedarnath, and hundreds of people died. Thousands of people were either rendered homeless or killed.
The statue of Dhara Devi is believed to have been removed on the evening of June 16, 2013. Within a few hours, the natural disaster in the form of a sudden flood started showing its fierce form. After which, after apologising to the goddess and promising to rebuild the temple, when the flood waters subsided, with the efforts of the local people, the temple was rebuilt at the same place.
